This is the final step in the writing process,
but also an extremely important one. If you have an intelligent,
persuasive argument, but you have an inordinate number of grammar
errors or misspelled words, then your reader will often discount
your work. Careful proofreading allows your reader to peruse the
paper unhampered. It is an both an expectation and a courtesy demanded
by the academic discourse community.
At this point in the paper you are reading for obvious
errors. It may be helpful to have a member of your learning team
or a friend read over the paper for these kinds of errors.
*Note that your computer's spell check will not
pick up an error in words such as "there and their" or "to and too." You
must take responsibility for your paper's appearance.
Finally, you should celebrate. Placing your work
in the academic discourse community is an important part of your
education and you should be proud of your efforts.
