Your MAEd Portfolio will include a collection of
1) artifacts from your MAEd program coursework,
2) reflections,
and
3) a written autobiography.

What type of “artifacts” should be included?
The artifacts are papers and projects you select from your program’s coursework. These artifacts should be assignments graded or assessed by the instructor of the course. You will need one artifact from each core course.  The following are core courses for the MAEd program:
• EDU 5101 Learning Theories and Instruction
• EDU 5102 Assessment Strategies
• EDU 5103 Curriculum Development and Design
• EDU 5531 Today’s Learner
• EDU 5120 Action Research in the Classroom.

What do you mean by “reflections”?
You will write a reflection addressing the Essential Characteristics for each of your artifacts. Your written reflection should be 2 pages at minimum.

You will also write a final (3 page) reflection that refers to your growth during the program, how you have applied new learning to your classroom, and your future plans in education.

What should I include in my autobiography?
Your autobiography should be a 3 page word picture of who you are. Include your educational background, where and when you have taught, and what brought you to our MAEd program.

How should I organize my portfolio?
Organization is important. Most students find that a 3-ring binder with dividers and a contents page works well. You may also want to include sheet protectors.

When is my portfolio due?
Your portfolio is due prior to graduation from the program.

How do I deliver my portfolio?
You will present your portfolio at an MAEd Portfolio Presentation with others who are finishing the program. These Portfolio Presentations are on the 1st Monday of May for May graduates and on the last Monday of August and last Monday of November for December graduates. Contact the School of Education office for location and time.

How will the portfolio be assessed?
Your portfolio will be assessed with the MAEd Portfolio Rubric.

Will my portfolio be returned to me?
After your portfolio is assessed, it will be available for pickup at the School of Education in either the Overland Park or Wichita location.   If you are a member of a cohort group, the portfolio is returned to your class rep.
