Winter weather policy

Due to the unique nature of the Baker University accelerated programs, all classes missed because of inclement weather must be made up.  Experience has demonstrated that weather conditions (and road conditions) can change dramatically during the midday hours.  Therefore, Baker University will determine class cancellations at 2:00 p.m.    Our decision will incorporate concern for safety and inconvenience caused to students and faculty when make-up is required.  MAED cohorts do not meet if the host district closes schools.

The announcement of class cancellation due to inclement weather will be posted on the Baker University website (http://www.smartermind.com/current/current_students.asp) by 3:00 p.m.  Notification will be sent to all students enrolled in classes that evening by email (to the Baker student email account).  Class Representatives are asked to ensure that all members of the class, including drop in students, receive the information.

Either prior to or during the next scheduled class meeting, the group and the instructor will determine a date for the make-up session.  Extending the calendar cannot be considered because this would impact graduation deadlines, completion dates, instructor assignments, planned holidays for students, VA benefits, and financial aid.  Facility availability is another factor in scheduling make-up class sessions, so Baker University also accommodates class make-up sessions on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.  The instructor will inform the University of the group’s decision and the Student Services staff will distribute an email to the members of the class to confirm the classroom location designated for the make-up session.
