Ethics in Business Awards Banquet |

On April 17, 2008 Baker University participated in Ethics in Business Awards Banquet at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center. The event is Midwest Christian Counseling Center’s (MCCC) annual recognition of Kansas City businesses and community leaders whose work reflects the highest ethical conduct and dedication to social responsibility. Among those in attendance from Baker were the Dr. Pat Long, Dr. Randy Pembrook, Reverend Ira DeSpain, Dr. Cindy Hoss, Dr. Dan Falvey and Baker University School of Professional and Graduate Studies students from the Leadership Ethics class. During dinner Dr. Hoss, SPGS Assistant Dean of Instruction & Curriculum, and Dr. Falvey, SPGS Associate Professor of Business and Management, introduced the 2008 nominees from for-profit and not-for-profit businesses and individual business leaders: Cancer Action, Cornerstones of Care, Friendship Inn, Harvesters Community Food Network, Southeast Enterprises, ABC Business Records Center, Addington Design, Almar Printing, Body Basic Chiropractic, Central Fiber Corporation, Certified Safety Manufacturing, J.E. Dunn Construction, Lockton Companies, Power On Technologies, Inc, Pryde’s of Old Westport, Rau Construction Company, Speed Queen Fabric Care Center, Triune Financial Partners, VSR Financial Services, Mary Beth Blake, John T. Fales, Jr. DDS, James (Skip) Hutton, William Jewell, MD. Marti Lee, Elaine McIntosh, Robert Miller, Jay Olson, and Michael Stacks
The 2008 Awards were presented to:
Cancer Action—an organization that provides free assistance to improve the quality of life of those living with cancer. Central Fiber Corp. an environmentally conscious manufacturer producing products from recycled newsprint & hardwood chips.
J.E. Dunn Construction, 82 year old family business with long record of community service and developing employment opportunities for minorities and women.
Robert Miller, founder of Robert E. Miller Insurance Agency for service and philanthropy.
Since 2006 Baker has partnered with MCCC for their Ethics in Business Award Program by providing faculty and students from the Leadership Ethics course to interview nominees and to assist with the program and Award presentation. This year Dan Falvey and Richard Sumpter taught the course and guided the students through the interview and research processes. The course culminated with research reports that were given to the Ethics in Business Awards Selection Committee, led by Dennis Schemmel, MCCC Board Chair.
Through the Ethics in Business Awards Program the Midwest Christian Counseling Center will continue to support ethics in business and in society while raising funds to supplement financially-assisted counseling services to the community.
